Homemade Naan Pizza Recipe for a Fast and Tasty Meal

Naan pizza is the closest alternative to traditional pizza made with homemade pizza dough. Earlier this week, I prepared homemade naan and found myself craving pizza but still wanting a fast and simple lunch. Unlike traditional pizza dough, which requires hours of preparation, naan pizza offers a much quicker solution. While it may not fully match the flavor of classic homemade pizza, it delivers excellent results for a 20-minute meal. In fact, it’s even faster than ordering takeout pizza, making it a practical choice for busy days.

Overview

Naan Pizza is the perfect quick and delicious meal, using soft, chewy naan bread as the base for your favorite toppings. Whether you prefer a hearty meat lover’s combination of pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, or a fresh veggie lover’s mix of sautéed onions, roasted red peppers, olives, and mozzarella, this easy recipe delivers bold flavors in every bite. Simply preheat your oven to 450°F, spread sauce over leftover naan, layer on cheese and toppings, and bake on an oven steel or cookie sheet until crispy and melty. Ideal for lunch, dinner, or a creative way to use leftovers, naan pizza offers a customizable, homemade taste in under 20 minutes.

What Do You Need for Naan Pizza?

Two leftover naan pieces—whether large or small—work perfectly for this recipe. When preparing naan from scratch, it’s a smart idea to make a couple of extra-large pieces so you can enjoy a personal pizza the next day for lunch. After spreading your favorite sauce, load up all your preferred toppings.

Farmer Fred is a true meat-lover pizza fan. His naan pizza is generously topped with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, or a full mix of meats for maximum flavor. What about you—what are your favorite pizza toppings?

Personally, I lean toward veggie-loaded naan pizza. Mine is topped with sautéed onions, roasted red peppers, olives, and whatever fresh vegetables are available and look best at the moment. And of course, cheese is a must. A blend of Italian cheeses works perfectly, and I also like adding fresh mozzarella on top of my veggie lover’s naan pizza for that rich, melty finish.

How Do I Make Naan Pizza?

Naan pizza is incredibly simple and perfect for a quick homemade meal. I prefer baking naan pizza on an oven steel because it delivers a crisp, restaurant-style crust. If you’re using an oven steel, make sure to preheat your oven with the steel inside for at least 30 to 45 minutes before placing anything on it. This step is essential for achieving an evenly cooked, crispy base.

If you don’t have an oven steel, a regular baking sheet or cookie sheet works just fine as an alternative.

Preheat your oven to 450°F. Once the oven steel is fully heated, carefully place the naan on it and spread your sauce evenly. Add a generous layer of cheese, then top it with your favorite ingredients.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, and the bottom of the naan turns golden and crisp. Let it cool slightly before eating, as the cheese and toppings can be extremely hot right out of the oven—burning the roof of your mouth is an easy mistake when you’re too eager to dig in.
