bacon-wrapped lil smokies

Every time I make these bacon-wrapped mini hotdog appetizers, they disappear off the plate. I end up wishing I made more. Last time I made them for a party, I made double the amount I usually make, thinking it would be nice to have some leftovers. No such luck, they all disappeared, and Farmer Fred was disappointed to learn his favorite appetizer was gone. I have come to the conclusion that this is one appetizer that will never become leftovers. It is that good!!!

How To Make these Mini Hot Dog Appetizers.

These appetizers are so quick and straightforward to make. Start by wrapping the Lil smokies in 1/4 of a piece of bacon. Secure the bacon to the dog with a toothpick. Shake them up with brown sugar, then drizzle with some real maple syrup. Bake these little pups until they are browned and crispy. Watch them fly or maybe roll off the serving plate.

FAQ:

Q: Can I make these ahead of time?
A: Yes! You can assemble them a day ahead and refrigerate. Bake right before serving for best crispiness.

Q: What kind of bacon should I use?
A: Regular cut works best—thick-cut bacon takes longer to cook and may not crisp as well.

Q: Can I use something other than brown sugar and maple syrup?
A: You can try honey or a sweet BBQ glaze for a twist, but brown sugar and maple syrup give the classic sweet-savory combo.

Q: How long do they need to bake?
A: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and browned.

Q: Are these gluten-free?
A: They can be—just check your Lil Smokies and bacon brand to ensure no gluten-containing additives.

Q: How do I serve them at a party?
A: Stick them into a platter with the toothpicks still in, or keep them warm in a slow cooker set to “warm” setting.
