Sesame Seeds

There’s a new brain super food in town – sesame seeds! These tiny seeds have been used in cuisines around the world for centuries, but it turns out they’re not just delicious, they’re also incredibly good for your brain. Packed with nutrients like iron, magnesium, and vitamin E, sesame seeds have been linked to improved cognitive function and memory. Plus, they’re a great source of healthy fats that help to keep your brain sharp and focused. So next time you’re looking for a snack, skip the chips and reach for some sesame seeds instead. Your brain will thank you!

Five Ingredients in Asian Sesame Dressing

  • Sesame Oil – Use toasted sesame oil and not sesame seed oil as it has a lighter more subtle flavor.  Sesame seed oil is a darker oil than sesame oil.
  • Soy Sauce -I use regular salt soy sauce, however is you are on a low salt diet use the low sodium variety.  I purchase my soy sauce at an asian market, however the soy sauce from the grocery store is also ok to use.
  • Simple Syrup – make a batch of simple syrup and leave the extra in the fridge for use in mixed drinks.  To make simple syrup combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.  Heat until dissolved.  Let cool before using.
  • Rice Vinegar – I’ve use both the seasoned and unseasoned rice vinegar in this recipe and both are equally delicious.
  • Sesame Seeds – Use whole and can use either raw or toasted.

Instructions for Asian Sesame Dressing

Combine the five ingredients in a beaker or bowl.  Stir and pour into your salad cruet.  I prefer a wider mouth cruet as the sesame seeds float to the top and tend to clog a narrow mouth or spout on your cruet.
