SIS Tip - Simple is Smart Tip for Bisquick

Make the Bisquick:

I am not a fan of the purchased Bisquick because of the preservatives in it. A key component of the biscuit/baking mix is fat. When you put a box of flour with fat in it and set it on the shelf for several months, you have to load it with preservatives to keep the fat from going rancid.

The improvement in taste between homemade and purchased biscuit mix is worth the extra time it takes to make the mix. Once the mix is made, store the extra in the fridge and use it for more waffles, pancakes, or biscuits.

To make the mix – in a food processor – mix.

  1. 6 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup of vegetable shortening
  3. 3 tbsp. baking powder
  4. 1 tbsp. salt

Process for about 15 seconds or until the mixture resembles cornmeal.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Spirulina Powder

Neuro-Nutrition Nugget - Spirulina

Spirulina, a blue-green algae, is not only a superfood but also a brain booster. Packed with essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, spirulina is believed to have numerous benefits for the brain. It contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain health and function. These fatty acids help in maintaining the structure of brain cells and promoting communication between them. Additionally, spirulina is rich in antioxidants that protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation, which can contribute to cognitive decline. Regular consumption of spirulina has been associated with improved memory, focus, and overall cognitive performance.
