Here is the SIS (simple is smart) way to make your own Taco Seasoning. 

Gather your ingredients: cumin, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, sea salt, paprika (use the smoked paprika if you can find it). If you can’t get smoked paprika, go with the plain paprika. Optional, but good is Umami powder (click here ) to learn more about it. 

Also optional is cornstarch. The commercial envelopes of Taco seasoning have cornstarch for thickening meat taco’s. I did not use the cornstarch in this batch of taco seasoning.  If you use cornstarch in the taco seasoning add the seasoning to 1/2 cup of water before adding to beef or pork taco filling. 

Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

  • Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. 2 Tbsp. is equal to one envelope of commercial Taco Seasoning. Add the cornstarch if you are using the seasoning for meat tacos. Add the seasoning to ¼ cup of water before adding to the meat.

Notes

Taco Seasoning will last up to a year.  If it forms clumps, break up the clumps with a fork before using.
