Bobbie Sandwich For The Day After Thanksgiving

The Bobbie Sandwich was created by Lois Margolet and named after her Aunt Bobbie Capriotti and served initially at Capriotti’s in Wilmington, DE. The Bobbie is a great way to use up the Thanksgiving leftovers of turkey, stuffing, and cranberries.

What Is A Bobbie?

A Bobbie Sandwich is a sandwich with lettuce, roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing in a roll. Thanksgiving is over, and now you have a refrigerator full of leftovers. Your guests (if you have some), and your family, will soon be looking for something to eat for lunch or for an afternoon snack. A Bobbie sandwich is the perfect answer to providing a delicious meal/snack and using up the leftovers from the Thanksgiving feast.

How Do I Make A Bobbie?

A Bobbie Sandwich is easy once you have all the ingredients. The day after Thanksgiving may be the only day of the year that your fridge will be overflowing with the makings of a great Bobbie.

The Bread: The bread can be any bread you have handy.  Usually, it is the rolls leftover from Thanksgiving.  However, my favorite is my homemade Baguette or a couple of slices of my homemade Sourdough Bread.

The Filling: The Bobbie Sandwich is stuffed with mayo, lettuce (optional), cranberry sauce, stuffing, and turkey. The order doesn’t matter. The challenge will be getting it to all stay in the sandwich when you take the first bite.

Assembly: Cut the bread (roll, baguette) in half and spread each side with mayonnaise. Next, add the lettuce, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and turkey. Season with salt and pepper. Top with the other half of the roll.   Serve with some leftover side dishes and pie for dessert. If you are feeling guilty about all the food you ate for Thanksgiving dinner, than skip the sides and pie. The Bobbie Sandwich is a meal by itself.

  1. Seriously? There is no lettuce in a Bobbie. Never!

  2. 1 star
The Bobbie consists of turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo. Where did lettuce and no mayo come from?

    1. Doctor Jo Author says:

Thanks for pointing out that I missed the mayo when listing the ingredients. Also, the lettuce is optional. I added the mayo but do mention in the next paragraph to spread both sides of the bread with the mayo.

  3. I lived in a foster home with the Phalen family in 1967-I was 15 years old. Mrs. Phalen gave up trying to break her sons away from football games so she served Thanksgiving dinner as ‘bobbies’. No offense to Capriotti but they weren’t the first in Delaware. We still enjoy their ‘Bobbies’ but they bring back memories of being 15. Thank-you.

  4. This is ok and I enjoy the sandwich from the shop, but I been doing this since I was a kid, and you gotta get the mashed potatoes and candied yams in as well.

    1. Doctor Jo Author says:

Oh my goodness, adding the candied yams and mashed potatoes puts the whole meal in a roll. I would love to hear if anyone else adds yams and mashed potatoes to their Bobby.
